Canada's 50% Tariff: Which U.S.-Origin Fastener SKUs Need Review?
On September 8, Canada applied a 50% tariff to a broad list of U.S.-origin steel fasteners under HS 7318. The list covers screws, bolts, nuts, washers, rivets, cotters and related parts.
For buyers, landed cost depends on origin records, HS classification, supplier mix and contract terms. A purchasing team may need to review each SKU before the next order.
For manufacturers and distributors, the measure puts pressure on quote validity, inventory planning and customer communication. Each quote needs a product origin and tariff code behind it.
This measure describes a trade rule; it does not provide a forecast for prices, demand or lead times. Trade policy can turn a small component into a major sourcing decision.
